Great news! We are officially launching our first guide from the Slow Travel Guide series today!!!! I have to explain how we came to create our travel guide series. We perfectly know there are many of them out there. Our guides are not supposed to be very exhaustive books. They will rather contain a limited but well-chosen amount of info that is meant to help you live a SageOnEarth experience during your stay.
The story behind the travel guide series
In few days we will officially be a travelling family for 17 years. My husband and I have travelled before that together on a very tight student budget. Before even knowing each other we’ve been travelling already but let’s keep to the SageOnEarth experience. We have been wandering the world together for 17 years. First, we were looking for turnkey-trips from travel agencies. We were in the common state of mind that there was no other possibility to visit foreign countries. But very soon we felt that it didn’t suit us at all!
What we wanted
We wanted to visit our places and choose our path. We wanted to wander and wander freely. Most importantly, we were delighted to do this with our kids who looked quite peaceful in return along the road. The first bell rang because we were uncomfortable being labelled as the troublemakers because “Yeah a baby!” from strangers who even didn’t know our kids. I know and understand that young children can be unwelcome with adults in some cases. The opposite is also true: “adults only” are not a good company for families. And, once again, we wanted to stay free to discover what was calling us during our trips.
Remaining free anywhere
Now you’ve certainly guessed that not depending on a group and a travel agency remains the best way to travel freely! We worked hard, however, to find safe, comfortable, financially reasonable and flexible experiences. It’s not easy, especially when the country you are aiming for is not using a language you can speak. Anyway, it’s always rewarding, because “it’s not the destination that matters, but the way to get there”!
Spreading the SageOnEarth experience…
We wanted to share our experiences with others, so we created SageOnEarth.com. We are now writing a blog where we tell about our simple life and our travel tips. What we want from here is going further and allow people not to depend on blog research and have a complete guide on their phone when they are abroad. We are perfectly aware of the fact that it’s sometimes difficult to be online when we are abroad. These guides will be downloadable “.pdf” with useful links and easy navigation. Of course, you can print them but think about the paper you use to do that. We highly encourage you to remain paper-free.
The choice of the first travel guide: Lyon in France
This first guide in the travel guide series is about a French city very dear to us because it’s where our story began 22 years ago. It’s where we planned our first get-away, it’s where SageOnEarth unofficially began.
How the travel guide series is going to work
We work hard on each guide to make them as perfect as we want them to be for you. They will contain many addresses, tips, some maps, tours. Whatever we think will help you embrace the “Slow Travel” experience we enjoy so much here at SageOnEarth.
Finally our first guide!
We hope you will enjoy this first guide as much as we enjoyed working on it! Enjoy the ride!
