June is here already and with June, a new “Reading 6 Books”! I love that little series because reading is such an important wellbeing tool. This semester theme is my first pillar: “Simplify.” What does it mean? Obviously, some of the books will be about minimalism, the why, but also the how. Some books are about mindfulness and simple happiness. All these books are light and delightful readings for the summer. Be inspired and think a little bit about what your life could be with less stuff, fewer worries, less negativity, more time, more laughter, more quality time. I don’t want to preach for minimalism, but I’d like you to understand that a tiny step into it is already such a relief.

2- Zen Habits by Leo Babauta
Leo Babauta is another reference regarding minimalism, and what I love about his writing is the peaceful atmosphere he creates. His blog is called “Zen Habits” and, if he is a minimalist, I would mainly refer to him as a zen modern occidental mentor. This book is a reminder of taking life without any anger or worries, perfect for a relaxing summer!
3- Ikigai by Héctor García, Francesc Miralles
Ikagai is a Japanese art of finding your true self. “Reason for living” is the exact translation. We can explain Ikagai with only four circles, isn’t that simple?
This book is presenting the subject in a very limpid and simple way. I enjoyed “reading” this book during our long train trip this winter. When I quote reading, that’s because I listened to it on Audible. Ikigai is the way to simplify our life goals. Sort out what matters the most on every aspect of life to find what can match perfectly.
4- Good Bye Things by Fumio Sasaki
If you want to read about minimalism from someone who started from scratch not so long ago, here it is. This man is now famous for this book, but he doesn’t have the aura emanating from The Minimalists. Note that his writing isn’t less pleasant, not in the least! But let’s face it, The Minimalists are superstars now, and I like to learn from the humble beginners sometimes because I can relate more. I’ve been living simply for over a decade now, but I still don’t consider myself as a mentor. I’m simply sharing what I’ve learnt, and like to read about others’ experiences as well. So, if you are like me, you’ll enjoy reading this one.
5- Aim True by Kathryn Budig
This book is all about simple health: good food, good vibes, and exercise. Many delicious recipes that you will love to try this summer with your family! Simple exercises to create some new routines and get fit, meaning healthy fit!
6- The Art of Breathing by Dr. Danny Penman
This last book can’t be simpler. You’ll want to read it slowly, one small bite at a time. You’ll learn so much in so little time and so few words. This book is the quintessence of a minimalistic book with maximum efficiency! A little gem for a perfect summer read!
The importance of reading
So now you have your list for the next months, I would like to remind you the power reading has on your mind. Mental health is so important, and as parents, we all have some hard time reading. But sometimes at night when your long day is over, think of all the benefits you can gain from reading 10 minutes instead of falling asleep in front of your TV screen! I always try to choose some easy and quite short reads. Ideally, they won’t feed your thirst of reading for 6 months. But I hope it will inspire you for indulging further this mind-blowing simple exercise!
